Inspired by mountain herding scenes. Li Yongqiang uses the wood as his medium, capturing a winter moment — a girl and her llama, warm in each other’s company. The llama bends its head gently; the girl smiles, softly, eyes lowered. The space between them is full. The work does not aim for likeness, but for feeling — a bond of trust, of care, of being together in silence.

Title

The Llama & The Girl
Carved by Mr Li Yongqiang, inheritor of intangible cultural heritage. Following the natural form of Taihang cypress, he reveals a still moment in the mountains — a girl and her llama, together in silence. A meditation on warmth between living things.

Material

Selected Taihang cypress — aged, weathered, its grain wild and flowing, carrying a natural, subtle fragrance. This wood grew on cliffs, endured wind and frost, and carries in its form and scent the breath of mountain and sky. It gives the piece a quiet, living presence.

Craft & Use

Following the wood’s own shape — the girl’s shawl, the llama’s wool — all born from the grain, as if grown, not carved.
The faces are detailed, tender, alive — balanced between suggestion and presence.
Polished by hand through dozens of steps — the surface warm as jade, smooth to the touch.
A piece for study, tea room, living space — its cypress fragrance calms the mind, lifts the room.
A meeting of Eastern nature-philosophy and a feeling anyone can share: the need for quiet companionship.

Gift & Collection

One piece of craftsmanship, carrying two kinds of warmth —
· For someone you treasure: a wish for companionship and care, always near.
· For yourself: to keep in your living space, a still point in a busy day.

Important Note

This is a handmade piece. Each is unique.
The wood may carry natural insect marks or traces of its buried years. These are not flaws — they are the wood’s own history, part of its true nature.
