This aroma cup set is made by Lei Huixian, a Master of Arts and Crafts of Zhejiang Province. Her works have been selected for the G20 Hangzhou Summit and the World Internet Conference.

The aroma cup is tall, slender, and narrow — a form designed to gather and hold fragrance. Unlike a standard teacup, its narrow rim and tall body trap the aroma, letting it swirl and concentrate within. You lift the cup, you breathe in — and the tea’s fragrance unfolds before the first sip. This is a cup made for the nose as much as the mouth.

On the cup, lotus leaves and flowers are carved by hand — leaves spreading wide, veins clear; blossoms standing tall, some in bud, some unfurling. The glaze is Fenqing (Powder Blue) — a classic Longquan glaze, soft and luminous, its tone ranging from a gentle grey-blue to a clear dawn-sky blue. It brings the lotus to life, cool and serene.

The saucer is pooled-glaze — the glaze gathers thick and clear at its centre, like a still, shallow pool. Place the cup on the saucer, and it becomes a lotus floating on a quiet pond. Cup is flower, saucer is water — flower rests on water, water holds the flower. Light moves across the surface, and the glaze shifts, now blue, now green — the colour of sky after rain, held in a single vessel.

Each set is unique. Hand-thrown and hand-carved, one at a time. The lotus leaves, the blossoms, the pooling glaze — each one slightly different, shaped by hand, not by machine. This is the mark of the maker — and the mark of a piece that exists only once.
