Title
The Rooster
Carved by Mr Li Yongqiang, inheritor of intangible cultural heritage. Using wood as paper and knife as brush, he captures the spirit of the rooster in elm — carrying Eastern meanings of dawn and good fortune, and a Western resonance of courage.
Material
Selected elm wood — dense, fine-grained, its texture like mountain and water, carrying a natural ancient strength. Li Yongqiang follows the wood’s own grain, letting the texture merge with the rooster’s form — each piece a collaboration between wood and carver.
Creative Philosophy
Li works with the wood’s nature — its grain, its scars, its own shape — letting the tree’s life become the rooster’s feathers, stance, spirit. Insect marks, knots, natural shifts — these are not hidden. They are the wood’s own memory, and they make each piece unique.
Craft & Use
Hand-carved using heritage techniques — every feather rendered, every line alive. The rooster stands tall, eye sharp, as if about to crow.
Use as a decorative piece for study, living room, or entrance — a guardian of space, a reminder of courage.
A piece that speaks across cultures — both a display of Chinese heritage craft and a symbol the world can share.

· For a friend or partner: may it bring the courage of dawn to their work and life.
